Not your average Classic Gold Commemorative! Original Mintage of only 100!
It checks all the boxes for the serious collector. Deeply mirrored fields are complemented by devices that show thick mint frost, with the combination yielding the stark gold-on-black contrast that is so sought after by collectors. The only (faintly) perceptible flaw is a mark that runs from the bridge of Jefferson's nose to mid-brow. Both 1903 commemorative dollars were struck in proof format and both had a mintage limited to only 100 coins. From glancing at certification events from each of the grading services it appears that attrition was not a problem with these issues; most appear to have survived as recognizable proofs and a significant number display contrasted fields and devices. However, few Ultra or Deep Cameo proofs are available to collectors. Only 13 finer certifications have been awarded by NGC, two of which are 65 Star certifications. Obverse: Portrait of Thomas Jefferson with the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the periphery.LOUIS are printed with an olive branch.
